SOUTHLAKE CANCER CENTRE HONOURS DONORS

The Stronach Regional Cancer Centre, at Southlake Regional Health Centre,
in Newmarket, officially opened their doors last year. The new $118 million
state of the art cancer centre, will serve more than 1.2 million York Region
and South Simcoe residents. The centre was built with funding from the
Provincial Government, of almost $54 million and the remaining
$64 million, from local business and private donations through the hospital’s
fundraising campaign.
This past June, The Stronach Regional Cancer Centre celebrated the
official unveiling of their donor wall in recognition in honoring those local
businesses, private and personal donors who helped to bring cancer care
closer to home.
Local New Tecumseth residents, Al and Judy Lord were in attendance,
representing the Newmarket Hurricanes JR Hockey Club, who have donated
just under $100,000 over the last 5 years from funds raised at their annual
benefit hockey, in memory of their past popular player, Kevin Lord #16,
who passed away in 2006, after a year long battle with brain cancer.
