The Schomberg Cougars ended their four game slump with an 8-1 win over the Fergus Devils Thursday night on home ice at the Trisan Centre in Schomberg.
"I was more impressed by the work ehthic by everybody," said Cougars head coach Sandy Bell. "They worked on the system and executed it well and it worked."
The Cougars led all three periods beginning with two powerplay goals in the first period by Kyle Bishop and a slick effort when Nick Weening took the feed from Tyler Smilsky who passed it out front from behind the net.
"Our PK tonight was really good," Bell said, "There was a lot of good passing plays - there were three goals that were really good to watch."
A third goal in the second period from defenceman Brandon Yorke gave the Cougars a three goal lead, before the Devils could answer with a single by Luke Reinhart at 7:37.
Bishop notched his second of the game on an assist from Weening.
The fifth Cougars goal was one of the ones that were 'good to watch,"
After fending off a five on three - the Cougars attacked with Bishop passing across the crease to Marc Banjovcic who caught the Fergus goal on the wide side to score.
The final twenty minutes saw the Cougars score three more to end the game.
Evange Bethanis, scored at the midway mark, followed by a second from Weening, and a final Schomberg goal by Colton Wood with less than a minute left in the game.
The Cougars now have a 9-13 record for the season.
The Cougars will return to home ice at the Trisan Centre in Schomberg on Thursday, December 1, to take on the Stayner Siskins.
The puck drop is scheduled for 8:30 pm.
