Hornets post double losses
Hornets Shutout Cougars
The second period turned out to be the back-breaker for the Schomberg
Cougars during Friday nights game against the Alliston Hornets at the
New Tecumseth Recreation Centre in Alliston.
After ending the first period 1-0 in favour of the Hornets, the Alliston squad
deliverd a heavy second period notching four goals to leag 5-0 going
into the final twenty minutes.
Cougars goalie Taylor Ewart had his work cut out for him taking 50 shots on net for the game.
"I think if their goalie (Ewart) didn't play such a good game it would have been 5-0 in the first period," said Hornets head coach Sandy McCarthy.
The first period Hornets goal came from Dakota Brooks.
Alliston's Zenon Byblow scored the second Hornets goal on a slick effort
early in the second period when he cut across the front of the net then placed a back-hand tot he top corner.
The other Hornets goals came from Andre Lessard, Brooks, and Mark O'Donnell.
Byblow did it again early in the third period on a powerplay effort.
The Cougars were coming off a win the previous night on home ice after dispatching the Penetang Kings 3-2 in over time at the Trisan Centre in Schomberg.
Donald Oldreive was in net for the Hornets and will start in the next game as well.
"If you win, and you keep winning, you keep playing," McCarthy said of the strategy he gold his goalies.
The Cougars will be on the road December 26, in Erin to take on the Shamrocks.
They return to home ice in Schomberg on Thursday, December 29, to face the Fergus Devils.
Game time is 8:30 p.m.
The Hornets will be back at the New Tec Rec Centre on Friday, December 30, to face the first place Stayner Siskins.
The puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
