Express JVs win over Halton
Big second half effort steals the game
The TNT Express Junior Varsity team rallied in the second half of their game against the Halton Crimson Tide to turn the game around and win 22-19 over the visitors in red.
It was a class effort by the squad who seemed shaken up at the half, then pulled it together it turned up for the final two quarters.
Halton was leading 13-0 at the end of the second quarter despite a good effort on the Express defence.
Good stops by linemen Mitchell Johnson and Kyle Shanley rattled the Halton cage, but the Express still needed to cross the goal to get back in the game.
The game turned in the Express favour starting with a long pass caught by Tyler Kraly that gave the TNT squad a first down.
Quartback Andrew Tee lit the board for the Express when he called his own number and ran wide for the touchdown.
Hayden Bristow place one between the uprights for the extra point.
The Crimson Tide scored another in the third quarter with a long run down the sidelines.
But the Express response saw running back Brian Palmer-Ellerby make a stupendious effort with a long run down the sidelines to drop the ball at the one yard line.
Tee went through the middle on the next play to give the Express 13 points on the board.
Heyden Bristow scored the game winner on an interception when he snagged the pass and ran it back to score.
The last half the the fourth quarter was all TNT as they shut down the Crimson Tide and held on for the win.
Gary Valentini snagged an interception and brought the Express 30 yards down field on his run.
Max Tucker put the cap on the game with a quarterback sack with 1:44 left on the clock that shattered any attempt by Halton for a last ditch effort to score.
It was a well deserved win for the Express against a tough opponent who also played a solid game.
The win brings the Express record to 3-1 for the season.
The JV's will play three games on the road before returning to home turf at Mel Mitchell Field in Beeton on July 17, for a 3:00 p.m. game against Brampton.
