Hornets drop game one
Three goal lead evaporates in the second period

"It's not what Stayner did right, it's what we did wrong," said Alliston Hornets head coach Sandy McCarthy after Friday's season opener 5-3 loss to the Stayner Siskins at the New Tecusmeth Recreation Centre in Alliston.
The Hornets dropped a three goal lead then gave up the game in the third period when penalties cost them big time and the Siskins scored with a two man advantage.
It took almost the full first period to get a score on the board.
Randy Cox notched the first goal with 1:07 left on the clock on an assist from Cody Rhodes.
Alliston's number two came early the second period on a shot from Bobby Sloan that went through the crowd and pass by a screened Taylor Trace in the net for Stayner.
It was the third goal of the game that showed some real style in the Alliston camp with a real slick effort that saw Mike Campeau pass in front to Randy Cox who kept the momentum and gave the feed to Mark O'Donnell in the wing who took the shot and gave Alliston a three goal lead at the end of the second period.
But the third period turned the game around for the Siskins when they scored three to tie it up included a real blooper on goal number three that trickled over the goal line at a snails pace.
Stayner goals came from Tyler Happenney, Connor Watt, and Corey DeRose.
A powerplay effort turned the game in favour of the Siskings when Daniel Latour scored the winner with 3:57 left in the game and a Stayner two man advantage.
A final empty netter capped the win for the Siskins.
Despite the winning goal on a powerplay, McCarthy said the loss started to build earlier in the game.
"It's not just that play that cost us," he said. "we have to have some self discipline."
It was the first time in several years that the Hornets have lost their home opener - and fans were sure of another when when the third period started.
The Hornets were a hot team in the first two periods but the break down in the third was something the fans just didn't expect.
The Horents will host Fergus on Sunday, September 18, with a 6:30 p.m. start.
There won't be a Friday night game this week.
The Hornets return to home ice on Sunday, September 25, to take on the Penetang Kings.
The puck drop is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
